"Soft" music can be intricate and unusual sounding to. It warmed my heart to see Spock's Beard in the "Hard'n'Heavy" section, and I can see that their music has a better chance to find an audience among metalheads than mainstream listeners, so it makes sense to place it there! Even extreme metal musicians make mellower music as well - Opeth, Cynic, Vintersorg, for example, and many bands become less extreme over time, or introduce more variation, without necessarily assimilating to the mainstream. I thoroughly resent this kind of thinking - OMG DIS NO GROWLS, DIS NOT METULZ, how narrow-minded ... and incredibly uninformed on top.
