Lisa Middelhauve: She is some kind of demi goddess for me

Winter Storm Mexico had the opportunity to talk to Lisa Middelhauve, the former singer of the German band Xandria. Among telling her musical plans after she left Xandria, the amazing singer and composer told the fan club how was her first experience watching Tarja with Nightwish back in 2002. It’s an amazing story which seems to happen quite often with other people as well, as far as we heard.

Winter Storm México: What’s your opinion about Tarja Turunen and did she influence your career at some point?

Lisa:
When I listened to Tarja with Nightwish for the first time in a CD I didn’t like their music that much – I don’t remember why. That was many years ago. Then I saw them live in the Summerbreeze Festival in Germany (2001 or 2002, I don’t know) and all I can say: My jaw dropped and my eyes popped out! Tarja was so brilliant, so amazing! Everyone was fascinated by her charisma and I’m sure that everyone in the crowd – including me- would have killed for her. Since then she is some kind of demi goddess for me, although I’ve never tried to copy her singing style or her outer appearance. It’s awesome having someone somewhere that shows me what is possible and how much work I still have to do until I can call myself a real diva.

Winter Storm Mexico: What do you think of Tarja Turunen in the development of her solo career?

Lisa:
She deserves a lot of respect and success! Tarja is a – how do you say? A GODDESS!!

You can read the entire interview in Spanish on Winter Storm Mexico.

After her departure of Xandria, Lisa Middlehauve sang with the French band Whyzdom for a few shows after their singer left the band, including the concert as Tarja’s open act in Paris in the What Lies Beneath tour. Nowadays Lisa is working on a project with Kirsten Bischof, who also joined Xandria for a short period of time. You can check how their project develops on Lisa’s facebook profile. Check it out, it seems promising!

very nice and interesting, she really seems a fan before a singer just like everyone else! really modest girl, good! i must say i never liked xandria and can't stand german gothic metal (apart from flowing tears that are one of my fav bands) but it's always nice to see such honest and passionate statements.

Yeah she is very passionate! And I like her solo stuff more that what she did with Xandria (but I like Xandria as well!)

She is very nice and accesible and I love her! Glad to see her speaking so nice of Tarja! I loved that video you posted, I hadn't seen it.

I bought a cd from Xandria just because it came in a bundle with a Lacuna Coil cd that I wanted and it was VERY cheap, like 8 US$ for both cds. So i bought it... but I confess it took me months until I decided to put Salomé in the cd player.

When I finally listened to it I liked it A LOT! it's an album i can listen to entirely without getting tired of it.

I love Lisa's voice, how good she is when she write songs. I love her solo stuff that is uploaded on youtube, and I can't wait for her project with Kerstin Bischof! :D

It was a pleasure to read any interview of hers. :)

Very cool indeed! Lisa seems really nice.

Back when I was listening to Pandora, Xandria songs would often come up, but I could never really get into them; the only one I liked was "India".

I'm not sure if it was the style, songwriting or Lisa's voice that I couldn't get into.

But not long ago, I listened to the doom metal last.fm radio and one of the tracks from the new Celtic Frost album "Monotheist" came on, and it featured Lisa as guest vocalist! I thought it sounded cool - with a deep male voice too - quite "old-school goth".

That's really nice to hear that Lisa collaborates with Kerstin. I thought it was too bad that she didn't stay with Xandria, she sounded really good. I admire Lisa for doing both clean vocals and growls, but Kerstin is the only female singer I've ever heard of who does both operatic vocals and growls! I have no idea if the new singer, Manuela, can growl too.

Why don't you interview Kerstin and Manuela, as well? :D By the way, Manuela used to be with Haggard and is a friend of Gaby Koss. =) (There's a bit of local pride involved because she is Bavarian and Haggard are from Munich.)

Manuela can't growl. xD Someone asked her in an interview and she said she can't. We're going to post a quote of her soon! Maybe tomorrow or on monday.

I think another south american WS interviewed Kerstin! It was WS Colombia. Here you can check it, it's in spanish but with the text in english too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvs1oLgOZWI

I think now we should wait a little bit more to try an interview with Kerstin and Lisa, wait until their project evolves a little bit. :D I really can't wait for it!
